Over the course of unit 1 I did many types of experiments using many different materials. My work ranged from doing pieces using a pinhole camera to using a professional Canon camera, by using both of this camera's I could see the many different ways you could take images.
I began unit 1 by seeing what makes a good photograph, as there are many ways you can take an image, different angles, camera ect, all of this can contribute to what makes a good image.
At the beginning of unit 1 I looked at Openings, this theme in particular can be interpreted in many different ways it could mean the openings in certain objects, the opening of a window or the a huge field which is not really what many people refer to as an opening however it can be. I really enjoyed this theme in particular because there were many different things that i could take images for example if there was a hole in a window or a smashed window this would be good to put in my them because it is different and there could be a good depth of field making it look interesting and draw in the audiences attention. One artist that inspired me the most was in this theme was Clarence John Laughlin as all of his work is very unique and not like other artists, also it can capture the attention of the audience and draw them in as some of his image most people wouldn't really relate to being apart of the theme openings.
Secondly we looked at light paintings, i really liked looking at this particular theme as there were many different things to look at and lots of artists who specialised in light painting, i looked at artists such as Man Ray, Frank Gilbreth and John Heskbeth all of these artist were very unique in their own way for example one of them used lots of different colours and the others were quite neutral using browns and white. John Heskbeth used lots of many different colours and instead of them just being of lights he included a figure to base his light paintings on for example the image that i used to represent his work there were many different colours used around someone who was standing in the middle with a mask on, the person standing their was mainly used for a base so that the artist could create and angel shape around the figure. I thought that Heskbeth's work was ok however I found that there was a lot going on and lots of different colours even though it was attention grabbing it could of been seen as quite confusing. My favourite artist that i looked at was Man Ray as his work was quite simple however will still grabbed peoples attention, the image i looked at to represent him i really liked as there wasn't to much going on to distract people from the purpose of the image which was the light, also i liked how he was in the background of the image just behind where the light was however it wasn't to distracting from the painting he created.
